Iowa-based ยท Non-emergency transportation

Wheelchair, Stretcher & Bariatric Transportation

Ask CPS about non-emergency rides where a wheelchair, stretcher, or bariatric mobility need affects vehicle planning. Each request is reviewed individually; vehicle fit, equipment, authorization, route, and availability must be confirmed before a trip is arranged.

Informational only. This page does not book rides or collect trip, medical, or member information.

Plan around the ride

Different mobility needs call for a clear plan.

Share general service questions with CPS. Before scheduling, confirm specific equipment and assistance through the appropriate transportation coordinator.

Wheelchair transportation

For non-emergency ride requests involving a passenger who travels in a wheelchair or uses another mobility device. Discuss the trip's boarding and securement needs so compatibility can be checked before arrangements are made.

Vehicle, lift or ramp, device fit, and availability must be confirmed for the specific trip.

Stretcher transportation

For non-emergency requests where a passenger needs to travel on a wheeled stretcher. Coordinate with the responsible care team or transportation plan and CPS to confirm that the requested vehicle and assistance are appropriate and available.

This is not emergency response or ambulance dispatch. Call 911 for an emergency.

Bariatric transportation

For ride requests where a passenger's size or mobility equipment may require additional space or specific capacity. Contact CPS before arranging travel to discuss whether the requested vehicle can safely accommodate the trip.

Capacity and equipment limits are trip-specific; no size or weight capacity is promised on this page.

Before arrangements are made

Confirm the details with the right coordinator.

If a health plan or transportation broker coordinates the ride, contact them about scheduling and authorization. CPS can answer general questions and confirm whether the requested trip can be supported.

  1. Confirm the trip is non-emergency and identify who is arranging or authorizing transportation.
  2. Ask CPS to verify the requested vehicle, equipment compatibility, assistance, route, and availability.
  3. Use your health plan or approved transportation broker for ride scheduling when that is part of your coverage.

Please do not enter member IDs, health information, pickup or drop-off addresses, appointment details, or other sensitive trip information in a general online inquiry. Use the appropriate approved channel for ride-specific coordination. For emergencies, call 911.

Common questions

Wheelchair, stretcher & bariatric transport FAQs

How do I find out whether a wheelchair can be accommodated?

Contact CPS and your health plan or approved broker before making arrangements. The wheelchair or mobility device, vehicle configuration, route, required assistance, and availability all need to be checked for the specific trip.

Can CPS confirm stretcher transportation for a discharge?

A stretcher request must be discussed and confirmed in advance with the responsible care team, transportation plan, and CPS. Vehicle, staffing, assistance, destination, authorization, and availability can affect whether the requested trip can be arranged. CPS is not an emergency ambulance service.

What should I ask about for bariatric transportation?

Ask CPS to confirm whether an appropriate vehicle and equipment are available for the passenger and mobility device. Capacity and space vary by vehicle, so a page view or general inquiry is not a confirmation of fit or service.

Does this page book or approve a ride?

No. This page is informational only. A call or general inquiry does not reserve a vehicle, approve a trip, or replace any required health-plan or broker authorization. Follow the scheduling process required by your plan.

Where does CPS provide service?

CPS is based in Iowa. Local Iowa service is the primary area; some out-of-state trips may be considered depending on the requested service, route, authorization, and availability. Confirm before making arrangements.
